Georgi Derluguian
Professor of Social Research and Public Policy at New York University Abu Dhabi, PhD in History, Doctor of Philosophy
骋别辞谤驳颈听顿别谤濒耻驳耻颈补苍聽is a聽well-known聽historical sociologist. His areas of research include ethnic violence, guerrilla movements and revolutions, particularly in the post-communist world and Africa, as well as post-Cold War globalization. He is currently a professor of Social Research and Public Policy at New York University Abu Dhabi.
His educational background is in African studies. In 1990 he moved to the United States to study for PhD in Sociology at State University of New York at Binghamton under the founder of world-systems聽analysis 聽Immanuel聽Wallerstein.聽 Upon receiving his PhD he taught at Northwestern University in Chicago.聽
Since 2013 he has been a聽professor 聽at聽New York University Abu Dhabi. 聽
In 2005, he published award winning book 鈥淏ourdieu’s Secret Admirer in the Caucasus鈥. In 2006, The Times Literary Supplement placed the book among its Books of the Year. The book won the Norbert Elias Prize in 2007.
In 2013 with a group of聽world 聽famous聽sociologists – Immanuel聽Wallerstein; Craig Calhoun; Randall Collins; Michal Mann 鈥 he co-authored a bestselling and award winning book 鈥淒oes Capitalism Have a Future?鈥 His scholarly聽works聽translated in聽seventeen聽languages including German, Korean, Turkish, Arabic, and Polish.
